SECOND YEAR (PL-2) uring the second year of residency, the house officer now assumes more responsibility and begins to tailor the program to their interests. They are able to select from a wide variety of pediatric and pediatric surgical subspecialty electives that are available. Housestaff may also use this time to pursue clinical and/or laboratory research under the supervision of senior faculty within any department at the medical school. There is at least one no-call elective so that trainees may select an off-campus elective.
